Beware of "stinging caterpillars" on campus.

Teachers,
This is not a joke.  Please be aware of some stinging caterpillars that some people have encountered here on campus. They are lime (pale) green with a yellow and red stripe.  They are often longer than 2" and have very stout bodies. The spines are usually yellow with black tips. Severe reactions CAN occur from the poison released by the spines.  Other reactions include itching and burning sensation (such as being bit by a wasp). If you or any student should happen to be bit by one of these caterpillars, please come to the clinic immediately for treatment.

Thanks,
Sheila Fowler, R.N.
